Why do you like or not like the French open's clay surface?

It's interesting because Americans typically have problems playing on it because we lack a strong clay foundation and the ability to construct long points. Personally, I like clay courts and find them very fun to play on, but I still like hard courts better. About the monfils thing, I believe he was just tanking and did not want to be beaten by federer without any excuses.
